Getting released on DVD and Blu-ray this month is David Fincher’s incredible version of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and if you haven’t seen it yet, read why you should.
Director David Fincher‘s dark and amazing re-telling of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO was one of my films of last year. And as it’s about to come out on DVD and Blu-ray, it seems a great time to tell you why you should track it down if you missed the movie on its theatrical release.
Where should I start? Well, first and foremost, you have Steven Zaillian’s exemplary adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s first novel in his “Millennium trilogy”. Next, we follow an outstanding Rooney Mara as the title character, the fierce and enigmatic computer hacker Lisbeth Salander – a girl with a very striking dragon tattoo. Teaming up with Daniel Craig who is her perfect foil as journalist Mikael Blomkvist to find a particularly brutal serial killer, the result is an engrossing crime thriller that stuns you right from the start.
Then there’s a supporting cast that reads like a who’s who of amazing actors. It includes Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard, Robin Wright, Steven Berkoff, Goran Visnjic, Joely Richardson and Geraldine James. They are all part of the chilling world of Larsson’s mystery about who killed teenager Harriet Vanger and which is brought incredibly to life by David Fincher. There’s also stunning cinematography showcasing the snow-covered Swedish landscape by Jeff Cronenweth and Fincher reunites with his Oscar-winning composers from The Social Network, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who deliver a killer soundtrack.
You can read my original review here. But to convince you that it is a must-see here is the absolutely fantastic three minute and 49-second trailer from when the movie was released last year. And start humming along to the Led Zeppelin “Immigrant Song” now…
