Another Academy Awards are almost upon us and all I can say is… come on THE ARTIST!

The movie to which I give all of my JSHmoviestuff luck at the Oscars this year is a little French film with a great, big heart known as THE ARTIST. Come on!!

Our host for the 84th Academy Awards, Billy Crystal is surely going to give us another entertaining evening. And whilst another batch of tall gold men (otherwise known as ‘Oscar’) will be bestowed on the great and the good from this year’s contenders, it’s always a little nail-biting to think who will be the big winners on the night?

As we reach my one-year anniversary of this blog and finish off the movie-going year too with the biggest awards ceremony there is, it feels another good moment to look back and think of all the movies I’ve seen over the past 12 months. I celebrated the films that had impressed me in my Review of 2011 – a yearly round-up which will become an annual feature of this blog – but whereas my collection of movies doesn’t quite match the Academy’s for the coveted ‘Best Picture’, it does include THE ARTIST and Bennett Miller’s extraordinary Moneyball. Not bad going.

So for this year’s top prize, I really hope the saying ‘silence is golden’ proves timely and THE ARTIST triumphs. In the midst of the other nominees in this category which include The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, and War Horse – I think a film that celebrates the beauty and artistry of film itself absolutely deserves honouring.

Let’s hope the Academy think so too!
