The summer 2011 crop of blockbusters are on their way

Who’s going to come out on top in the battle of the summer 2011 blockbusters?

I’ll be casting my JSHmoviestuff critical eye over each of the big releases, selecting the champions from the wannabees, the pirates from the cowboys, the superheroes from the aliens and having some big fun along the way.

Captain America The First AvengerWe’ve started with Kenneth Branagh’s Thor where Chris Hemsworth’s Norse prince learns humility and also becomes a pretty damn good defender of Earth in the process; and following closely on its heels has been the return of Johnny Depp’s wacky and wonderful Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides – or Pirates 4 as some have called it. Arriving shortly is Matthew Vaughan’s X-Men: First Class where we’ll discover the origins of Professor X and Magneto, I’m sure superbly portrayed by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender respectively. But of all the trailers for this year’s summer blockbusters, the one I’m most excited by is Captain America: The First Avenger – history and fantasy seemed to have been thrillingly realised in this big screen version of Marvel comics’ superhero Steve Rogers, played with square-jawed brilliance and breathtaking daring-do by Chris Evans. Bring on July!

The good, the bad and let’s hope not the downright ugly, will all have their day in the sun, so watch this space…
