Hunted by your future and haunted by your past in Looper

It’s not out until September but feast your eyes on LOOPER, a new sci-fi action/drama from the very talented writer/director Rian Johnson.

Just arrived online is the first trailer for LOOPER, the new feature from talented writer/director Rian Johnson, who was responsible for one of the best debuts in recent memory – the high school/noir homage Brick. I absolutely loved Brick, which saw the always-excellent Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Brendan, a sleuth straight from the Philip Marlowe mould, solving a mystery involving a grown-up Lukas Haas (the fab kid from Witness) as a powerful drug dealer known as The Pin. And all in high school. Ace.

With LOOPER, he re-teams with Gordon-Levitt for something completely different – a sci-fi action/drama set in the year 2074. Here, men like Gordon-Levitt’s Joe are “loopers” or hired guns who, using time travel, journey back to the past to remove anyone his employers (a criminal syndicate) want to target. Through the splash which Brick made on the cinematic scene, Johnson has assembled a really top-drawer group of actors for his new film. The brilliant Bruce Willis co-stars along with Emily Blunt, Jeff Daniels, Piper Perabo, Garret Dillahunt, and Paul Dano. How’s that for a cool cast in what looks like a very intriguing and original film.

So check out the trailer and visit your own future…
