The brilliant writer/director CAMERON CROWE has made some great movies but also hear him talk about directing bears.
When brilliant writer/director CAMERON CROWE mentions that the role of Jerry Maguire was originally written for Tom Hanks, it could have all been very different. Imagine how “You complete me” – that iconic line from his biggest success to date – would have been played? We’ll never know but it was pretty damn fab the way it did turn out. Sometimes it’s all about fate.
Crowe made a huge splash all the way back in 1989 with his brilliant debut Say Anything… – remember John Cusack and that ghetto-blaster? He’d already impressed though with his screenplay for the now cult hit Fast Times at Ridgemont High where we’d seen the likes of Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold and Forest Whitaker give great early performances.
I loved his 1992 film about dating Singles with an amazing ensemble cast including Bridget Fonda, Kyra Sedgwick, Campbell Scott, Matt Dillon and the wonderful Bill Pullman. Following the smash-hit Jerry Maguire in 1995, five years later we were treated to the delights of rock n’ roll in Almost Famous, with Billy Crudup, Kate Hudson, Patrick Fugit, Frances McDormand and the one and only Philip Seymour Hoffman.
So, have a read of this very cool interview with CAMERON CROWE where he talks about his new film We Bought a Zoo starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and a returning Patrick Fugit, directing bears, music in movies, getting a guy to say “I love you” and Tom Cruise running…
