Denis Villeneuve will make replicants return in Blade Runner 2049

Director Denis Villeneuve, Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling all make BLADE RUNNER 2049 a sequel to be very excited about.

In 2017, director Denis Villeneuve will transport us into the future once again with BLADE RUNNER 2049. That’s a WOW. And what’s more, he’s bringing Harrison Ford back for this long-awaited sequel. Double WOW. But hang on a minute, that’s not all.

In the new film, Ford is joined by an equally phenomenal cast as in the original. This time, we have Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis and Barkhad Abdi. And let me mention again, it’s brought to us by the genius director of the moment Denis Villeneuve whose most recent film, the astonishing sci-fi drama Arrival, certainly showed his credentials for making epic science fiction.

Just in case you’re not sure why I’m so excited about this new movie, let me bring you up-to-speed.

In 1982, Ridley Scott brought us Philip K. Dick’s vision of Los Angeles 2019 in the now seminal sci-fi thriller Blade Runner. We saw a grizzled Harrison Ford as ex-cop Rick Deckard, now a “blade runner” or bounty hunter of “replicants” – cutting-edge androids who are virtually unrecognisable from humans. A rogue group of replicants have come to Earth from the off-world colonies and Deckard must track them down and eliminate them. Or in Dick’s brilliant universe “retire them”. Scott assembled a now-legendary cast of Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Daryl Hannah, Brion James, Joanna Cassidy, Edward James Olmos, M. Emmet Walsh, William Sanderson and Joe Turkel. The movie became a sci-fi classic and the go-to source for many imitated futuristic films since.

Anyway, back to the present – or rather, the future. The first teaser trailer – or “announcement” – for BLADE RUNNER 2049 has just hit the web and so take a look!!!!
